I didn't grow up on a farm.
I grew up in the suburbs, eating processed food and buying everything pre-made. It wasn't until my late twenties that I started asking: where does this actually come from, and could I make it myself?

The kitchen is where most of the learning happens.
Learning by doing, and failing.
My first batch of jam didn't set. My first sourdough loaf was dense as a brick. My first attempt at canning ended with a jar that didn't seal. I kept going anyway — because even the failures taught me something.
That's the honest truth about learning homesteading skills as an adult: it takes time, it takes repetition, and it takes being okay with imperfection. Nobody gets it right the first time.
"The goal was never to be perfect. It was to be capable."
Down 2 Earth Livin'
Why I started teaching.
People kept asking me questions. Friends, neighbors, people online who'd seen a photo of my pantry or a jar of something I'd put up. They wanted to know how — and they wanted someone to tell them it wasn't as complicated as it looked.
So I started writing it down. Then filming it. Then building courses for people who wanted to go deeper. The community that's grown around this work is the part I'm most proud of.
You don't need acres of land or a barn full of equipment. You need a kitchen, a little time, and the willingness to try. That's what this site is built around — skills that fit into real life, wherever you are.
